After repairing the beacons for Brin, the Freelancer returns to the fort to speak with her. However, instead of debriefing, the Sentinel Lieutenant, who still doesn’t have her Superior’s permission to join hands with other factions, has a different mission for her new Freelancer accomplice.
Hints and Suggestions
- The dialog exchange between the characters will change depending on whether single player or multiplayer mode is played.
- Remember to perform Feats to obtain XP for increasing Pilot Level and receiving Alliance bonus.
- This particular expedition may have a video walkthrough.
- Make sure to read the text pop ups that show around the memorials. This can be easily done with the help of a Sniper Rifle. Zoom and aim at the pop up marker that looks like
for the best view. - It is easy to deal with heavy Scar Enforcers with acid or fire as they are armored.
- Stripping shields from Scar Scouts and Hunters is key to keep them in check.
- The Legendary Scar Hunters can be a nuisance as they are among the highest damage dealing enemies. But fortunately, they can only do damage when they are flying. So, strip their shields, using any lightning or Shield Breaker damage dealing equipment and set them on fire or freeze them with ice.
- For the hordes of Scars using items that can do any type of Blast Damage is ideal.
- Fauna summoned by the relic can be taken down with blast damage dealing items.
- Make sure to revive any downed Sentinel, as they can help with the Ally Javelins Repaired Feat for that extra XP bonus. Harvesting for materials is also quite easy because a lot of mineral nodes and organics are found within the mission area.

- A Legendary Scar Hunter shows up while helping Barr and the Sentinels at the generator. Another one shows up through the hives later on. A third one shows up while silencing the relic!

- Sentinel protocols dictate only a Commander can give permission to begin the process to approve unlocking this door.
- Two Legendary Scar Scouts, one sniping atop a tank and one on the ground show up when the Scars ambush the Sentinel base.
- Brin really, really hates scars.
- By the end of this mission, Brin has begun trusting the freelancers, or at least the one she has been contracting, a little more.
- This mission has the greatest number of Sentinel characters with special dialogues in it, at 4!

Below is the Script and Walkthrough for A Simple Job (Mission):
Briefing
Brin is waiting for the Freelancer at her usual post.
- Sentinel Brin: "Freelancer. It’s good to see you."
- The Freelancer: "Hey Brin."
- Sentinel Brin: "New day, new contract. What do you say?"
- The Freelancer: "Tell me more."
- Sentinel Brin: "So: Scars are collecting Arcanist machinery and Shaper relics. Why?"
- The Freelancer: "Are you asking me, or…?"
- Sentinel Brin: "Thanks to you, we recovered a Scar-modified relic. I’ve sent Arcanists to our off-site Sentinel base for protection while they study it."
- The Freelancer: "Good thinking."
- Sentinel Brin: "Not that I think anything will go wrong, but…"
- The Freelancer: "Send the person who’s good at eliminating both Scars and Shaper relics?"
- Sentinel Brin: "I hoped I could count on you. Appreciated, Freelancer."
The Freelancer accepts the job.
Help Sentinels Guard the Shaper Relic
The Freelancer prepares for the mission.
Launch Expedition

Briefing Gallery
In Expedition
The Freelancer waits for instructions from Sentinel Brin at the Fort Tarsis gate facing Tarsis Falls.
Travel to Sentinel Base
- Sentinel Brin: "Brin here, Freelancer. Hello. I really do appreciate you keeping an eye on this."
- The Freelancer: "Sure. Any details?"
- Sentinel Brin: "The Arcanists are studying the Shaper relic we recovered. The scars rigged it up to a bunch of Arcanist machinery. Like the one that made those Skorpions."
- The Freelancer: "Yep. We’re trying to figure out what this relic does. And why the scars want it so badly."
- Sentinel Brin: "Exactly."
The Freelancer reaches to the location.
- The Freelancer: "Brin. I’m at the Sentinel base."
- Sentinel Brin: "Very good. Everything will be fine, but… keep me posted."
- The Freelancer: "Will do."
Inspect Relic
The Freelancer checks the Shaper Relic that is being studied by Arcanists nearby around Honor Valley. They are protected by two Sentinels on patrol duty: Sentinel Varice Mal and Sentinel Galla Dern
- The Freelancer: "Nice place."
- Sentinel Brin: "Oh, well. we don’t use it much, since we’re mainly at the fort. What with Shaper relics being so… fickle, this seemed safer."
- The Freelancer: "Agreed."
Sentinels Mal and Dern can be heard doing small talk.
- Varice Mal: "How’s Kari these days?"
- Galla Dern: "Busy. All these extra patrols have us both exhausted."
- Varice Mal: "You should bring her home a nice Scar antenna or something."
- Galla Dern: "Like, a trophy? To mount on the wall?"
- Varice Mal: "Well, you know. Happy wife, happy life."
The Freelancer interacts with the relic emanating a faint Shaper Energy.
- The Freelancer: "This looks… intense."
- Sentinel Brin: "Isn’t it?"
- The Freelancer: "What’s it going to do once it activates?"
- Sentinel Brin: "That’s what I’m paying these Arcanists to find out."
- The Freelancer: "Fair enough."
In a short while, Brin is distressed.
- Sentinel Brin: "Freelancer, something’s wrong."
- The Freelancer: "What is it, Brin?"
- Sentinel Brin: "The base’s power generator is down."
- The Freelancer: "Don’t worry. I’ll go check it out."
- Sentinel Brin: "Good. Yes."
The Freelancer goes to repair the generator while Mal and Dern continue their banter
- Varice Mal: " So, what’s your next patrol?"
- Galla Dern: "The commander has me on the Fort walls tonight. You?"
- Galla Dern: "Same."
- Varice Mal: "Aw. Twin day."
When the Freelancer reaches Strider Way, the location of the Generator, Scars gate in.
Protect Generator from Scars
- The Freelancer: "Scars are swarming the generator!"
- Sentinel Brin: "Of course they are. Sentinels were guarding it—are they all right?"
- The Freelancer: "I’ll find them."
Find Sentinels
The Freelancer looks for Sentinels. Some of them are downed.
- The Freelancer: "I’m with the Sentinels that were on guard here! Injured but alive!"
The Freelancer sees Sentinel Barr's javelin downed.
- Sentinel Brin: "Oh. Thank the silver skorpion in the sky. Help them up."
Repair Injured Sentinel
The Freelancer repairs Barr’s javelin while making sure the scars do not interfere. Barr then begins to help the Freelancer take the Scars down along with the other Sentinel
- The Freelancer: ""
- Sentinel Derian Barr: "Don’t worry about us. We’re okay. Let’s take out these Scars together."
More scars gate in
- Sentinel Brin: "More Scars!"
- The Freelancer: "Working on it."
Defeat Scars
The Freelancer and the Sentinels fight the Scars and defeat them
- Sentinel Brin: "Oh, no."
- The Freelancer: "What? I finished off all the Scars."
- Sentinel Brin: "The generator. It was a distraction. They’ve ambushed the base. They’re going for the relic."
- The Freelancer: "Oh crap."
- Sentinel Derian Barr: "Freelancer, go. We’ll be okay."
- The Freelancer: "Heading over right now."
Defend Shaper Relic
- Sentinel Brin: "Freelancer?"
- The Freelancer: "Something else?"
- Sentinel Brin: "No. I just… really, really hate Scars."
Return to Sentinel Base
The Freelancer quickly flies back to the base to see more Scars.
- The Freelancer: "I’m back at the base."
- Sentinel Brin: "We can’t let the Scars get their little pincers on that relic!"
- The Freelancer: "I’ll figure something out."
- Sentinel Brin: "I’ll figure something out! Go shoot scars!"
Defeat Scars
The Freelancer along with Sentinels Mal and Dern fight the Scars and defeat them. However, two Scar hives show up from underground
- Sentinel Brin: "Hives! Take them out!"
- The Freelancer: "Got it!"
- Sentinel Brin: "Still thinking of a plan!"
- The Freelancer: "Take your time!"
Destroy Scar Hives
The Freelancer must destroy 3 Scar Hives while taking care of very tough enemies
- Sentinel Brin: "You have to destroy the hives"
When all the hives are destroyed
- Sentinel Brin: "That’s the end of the hives. Now finish off the scars."
Defeat Remaining Scars
The Freelancer defeats any remaining Scars. Meanwhile, the Scars have moved towards another part of the Sentinel Base where there are Arcanists
- Sentinel Brin: "Freelancer—they’re moving towards the Arcanists!"
- Varice Mal: "We can hold this area."
- Galla Dern: "You know it."
- The Freelancer: "Okay."
The Freelancer flies off to the other part of the base.
Help Sentinels Defeat Scars
The Freelancer aids the Sentinels to fight the Scars. More Scars gate in. The Sentinels and the Freelancer defeat the Scars.
- Sentinel Brin: "Freelancer! Just take it and go!"
- The Freelancer: "What?"
- Sentinel Brin: "The relic. The Scars don’t care about the base—they want the relic. They’ll follow you!"
- The Freelancer: "On it."
Pick up Shaper Relic
The Freelancer flies to collect the relic.
- The Freelancer: "Okay, got the relic. It’s going volatile. Now what?"
- Sentinel Brin: "I found you a clearing, far from civilization. The Arcanist wanted to know what the relic and the machinery does. I can think of a faster way to find out."
- The Freelancer: "Take it far away and set it off?"
- Sentinel Brin: "It’s the only idea I have! Take it or leave it."
- The Freelancer: "I’m taking it, I’m taking it."
Use Shaper Relic to Lure Scars
The Freelancer must move to a different location to sway the Scars away from the Sentinel base.
Move Relic to Safe Location
The Freelancer sprints with the relic to the new location given by Brin. There are several Scars along the way which the Freelancer can evade.
- Sentinel Brin: "Okay. Freelancer, drop it here!"
- The Freelancer: "Looks good. No civilians, plenty of space!"
- Sentinel Brin: "Let’s do this!"
The Freelancer places the relic on the ground. It has gone volatile and releasing copious amounts of Shaper Energy and begins to spawn fauna.
- The Freelancer: "Brin! It’s like the other one."
- Sentinel Brin: "It’s making creatures? Get rid of them!"
- The Freelancer: "I am."
Stop the Scars and Shaper Relic Threats
- Sentinel Brin: "And fix that relic!"
- The Freelancer: "I will!"
Fragments Recovered
The Freelancer must recover 4 relic fragments while dealing with the enemies. When the first fragment is recovered.
- The Freelancer: "Fragment here!"
- Sentinel Brin: "Good! Fix it!"
Several Scars begin to show up
- Sentinel Brin: "Freelancer, Scars caught up with you!"
- The Freelancer: "I noticed!"
When the second fragment is recovered.
- The Freelancer: "Got a piece!"
- Sentinel Brin: "Back it goes!"
At the halfway mark,
- Sentinel Brin: "You’ve got this!"
- The Freelancer: "Here’s hoping."
When the third piece if found,
- The Freelancer: "Here’s one."
- Sentinel Brin: "Return it to the relic."
When all fragments are inserted,
- Sentinel Brin: "Okay! So, that happened."
- The Freelancer: "Well, the Scars will leave your base alone now."
- Sentinel Brin: "Right. That was terrifying, and dangerous, and kind of nuts, but… it was maybe, also, possibly a little bit impressive."
- The Freelancer: "Agreed. Hey, remember when this was supposed to be an easy mission?"
- Sentinel Brin: "Um… was it? Anyways, I need some time. 'Til later, Freelancer"
- The Freelancer: "'Til next time, Brin."
