Matthias Erryl Sumner is a dedicated arcanist fascinated by Shaper technology. He has a negative reputation among the Arcanists.[1] He is easily distracted, but never rude (under most circumstances).[2]
Personality
Matthias is a brilliant arcanist who extremely devoted to his duty, yet can be reckless and absent-minded at the same time, which earned him infamy among his peers. Despite his eccentricity, he displayed strong determination in uncovering artifacts he seeks and made it out alive at the same time. Matthias himself acknowledged this strength of his, citing that he once hid from the dominion patrol in a dung pile to the point of his whole body got stinky for weeks.
Gameplay
Matthias serves as a companion and a quest-giver. The player has to locate him in a mission.
In the course of examining the Manifold during the Triple Threat storyline, Matthias is literally split into three personalities: Matti, the adventurous one; Erryl, the scholar; and Sumner, the serious bad boy. With the Freelancer's help, he tries to cope with his predicament.
Dialogue
In the Mission Lost Arcanist:
- "This is Arcanist Matthias Sumner. Scars have attacked my camp. Need immediate assistance."
- "I'm calling anyone in the area. I need help. There are Scars everywhere."
- Freelancer: "It works! Matthias? Can you hear me?"
- "Yes! I can hear you! Thank goodness! There's no time. I'm hiding, but the Scars are searching. I...I can see them. You must hurry."
- "I was so absorbed in my research, I failed to notice my other camps had stopped reporting in."
Trivia
- Matthias is voiced by Vik Sahay.[3]
- Matthias, specifically Sumner, is the only character in the game to successfully pilot a Javelin without any form of training.
