Ice Flower is a hostile type flora that could possibly do damage to living and non-living things on Coda. It may even do possibly damage to javelins in its vicinity. Contact with this dangerous plant-life can be lethal to living organisms. Humans dealing with Ice Flower must handle it with care. Ice Flower is a valuable resource. These plants or products derived from them are used throughout the world in several ways.

Etymology and Anatomy

Ice Flowers plants get their name from “ice” (frozen water), and their prominent bulbous flowers. They can only grow in extremely cold temperatures.

Ice flowers are weird plants that grow as tall as a javelin, but only inside Shaper Ice Globes. These plants have flowers that are shaped like dark blue bulbs with glowing spots. These bulbous flowers are filled with a special white sap with a few useful properties.

Narrative Involvement

Ice Flowers have always grown inside Shaper Ice Globes whenever these globes show up—always during the time of Icetide. These plants have been harvested for their sap with the help of lancers.

A decade ago, and perhaps even earlier, the Freelancer Enclave of the proud city of Freemark used to run the harvesting event for the Ice Flower Sap. But since the city’s destruction, it is unknown where such an event would occur.

Since the silencing of the Heart of Rage in 468 LV, Fort Tarsis became a new hub to run the harvesting event during Icetide. However, outlaws have tried to cause a frenzy to harvest the sap for unknown reasons. The good news is that the brave lancers of Bastion have stopped them. The Freelancer also took part in this effort.

When the people of Mirrus begin to see their breath, they know that the chill is coming. This seasonal arrival of cold weather means that Icetide has finally returned and, as the oppressive heat lifts, so do people's spirits.

Whether by accident or intelligent design, frosty Shaper ice globes suddenly appear throughout Bastion, chilling the air from sea to mountains. The drop in the temperature dresses the world in sparkly white and brings many welcome changes--most notably, the emergence of the rare Ice Flower plant. The sap of the Ice Flower is very valuable and its harvest becomes a frenzy.

Along-side the serious and dangerous work of harvest, there is fun to be had. The accompanying festival is cheerful and sometimes wild. Pilots take breaks to zip through the frosty air on challenging race courses. People give gifts and attend ice-bath parties. Snowball fights are common but always in good fun.

Although never predictable in its timing, Icetide is welcome whenever it arrives.

Behavior and Abilities

Although the plant cannot be damaged, the sap collected in the canisters can be destroyed by doing damage to it, which will release the sap. Ice flowers are dangerous to handle. They can damage any living or non-living thing that touch its sap. The sap, although explosive, does ice damage and instantly freezes anything around it, including a javelin. The chilling effects of these flowers can drive creatures mad. Fauna such as Burtes and Wyverns linger around the ice flower during harvest times. Even rare chimeras like Storm Wyverns can be found around these plants wreaking havoc.

Arcanists and Engineers of Bastion have devised a contraption that can collect the ice flower sap through tubes and deposit them inside special canisters. These containers come out of a machine and has only a short time to be gathered into Cargo Mules. If the gathering takes too long, the canisters will explode and cause severe ice damage and freeze the collector. Fortunately, only pilots inside javelins are permitted to harvest them, minimizing the damage. But the javelin will still freeze if the canisters explode, or if they are destroyed before collecting them from their machines.
